A Baobab Collection of Alternative Lifestyle Experiences

...choose the Life you Want...

There are many wellness and healing practices, retreats, spaces that lay out happier and healthier ways of living. I venture out and write to demystify and translate the essence of these alternative lifestyle options with the intention to promote amazing opportunities, to guide seekers towards what is relevant for them and to create an archive of the flourishing consciousness that is upon us.

Baobab Trees can live up to 3000 years providing food, products, paper and shelter for humans and creatures. This magnificent tree serves the body & soul in a variety of ways. Inspired by the diversity and depth of the Baobab, the core of these writings aim to speak with and ignite the musings of your soul.

Rooting and Rising through a Kundalini Dance series with Uma Dua

As the spiritual and new age movements flourish, information about chakras (energy centers in the body) and kundalini energy (life force within us seated like a coiled snake at the base of the spine), has become more accessible than ever. However, relying solely on external information around these themes can leave us stuck in concepts without fully embodying the wisdom they offer. There is plenty of misinformation and fear around kundalini energy. Ironically this ‘mysterious’ energy resides and moves (or doesn’t) through all of us. Over 8 weeks I had the opportunity to safely, gently and tangibly explore my chakras and kundalini energy through dance with Uma Dua AKA Liz Coutts.

Over the 8 weeks Uma held a sacred and supportive space for participants to delve into their inner worlds. I found there to be to be similarities between ‘Kundalini Dance’ and ‘Conscious Dance’ in terms of the general intention of reflecting and expressing through dance as well as the experience of dance as medicinal. What made this space unique however were the specific breath and visualisation cues given to invoke further inward energetic and emotional connection to the body and all that it holds. What I enjoyed about this process is that there was no prescribed way of being and no required outcome– entirely an exploration. This openness demonstrated the authenticity and power of this process. i.e. the process will meet you where you’re at without pushing you where your energy can’t or is not completely ready to go. Don’t get me wrong, you’’ll naturally be encouraged to expand, but without force. To me this is the true impact of Kundalini energy and chakra alignment

Week 1 we kicked off rooting into the base chakra, our foundation for inner and outer security, and gradually rose to the crown chakra, our connection to intuition and the divine. The gift of this process was noticing and integrating subtle energy articulated through bodily sensation and stories of the mind seated and represented in each chakra. Dancing with a group of women each week enhanced the medicine and magic of the space. To witness and hear about each woman’s process was like a healing balm to the soul. Every week Uma shared valuable information pertaining to the psychology of the chakras in the whats app support group. This group was a supportive container to further share the impact of this process on us. Going through this as a group enhanced the feeling of a sense of community – something I think is diluted on a feeling level in modern society.

Processes like this dance series, working specifically with kundalini energy, give me a chance to get to re-know myself as I am now, acknowledging my transformation. It’s truly a chance to catch up with myself on surface and deeper levels. The beauty is that you can go as far as you want in your reflection: 1. rooting into the shamanic worlds, ancestral lines and past lives deep down; 2. reflecting on the middle plane of life as we see it and/or 3. rising up to the heavenly, angelic and Godly spaces to receive from source. The information all comes from your body and psyche making it an inside out process to which the effects are tangible.

According to many wisdom traditions, modern society has become disconnected from the lower chakras, leading to increased fear around kundalini energy and a lack of self-awareness. By prioritizing "doing" over "being," we miss the opportunity to acknowledge, process, and reflect on our life experiences. Kundalini Dance creates a nurturing environment to explore and integrate neglected aspects of ourselves, fostering greater balance and harmony within.

💜About the dance series...

Over 8 weeks we dance with the energy of each chakra as it appears in our energy body. We do this through dance and by heart-fully making connection to our Kundalini energy - infinite creative energy that aligns us with our higher self and the cosmos. In simple English - helps us drop the BS, be authentic, awesome and free. The dancing, movement and breath, guided by Uma Dua, is the container in which we get to explore each chakra. Uma has been trained in Kundalini Dance (TM)[Originated by Leyola Antara].
